L&C Bio has obtained a patent for its breast reconstruction skin substitute "MegaDerm Star" and its manufacturing method, following a 3-year and 7-month process since filing in February 2021. The patent covers acellular skin substitute technology designed for breast reconstruction surgery.

The new patent improves the safety of the MegaDerm Star through epidermal removal and decellularization, enabling it to fully and securely cover breast implants. The flexible nature of the product allows for easier implantation, reducing surgery time and potential complications.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women globally, with rising survival rates due to early detection and medical advancements.

Reconstructive surgeries, often covered by health insurance, have progressed, and L&C Bio’s MegaDerm Star aims to enhance surgical outcomes by minimizing complications and improving implant stability.

The patent is also being pursued in China, where L&C Bio is working on securing NMPA approval for local production, potentially boosting the product’s value and accessibility for Chinese patients.
